Eugene "Gene" Hartis

F. Eugene Hartis (Gene), 78, of Mint Hill, passed away peacefully on November 16th with his family by his side. He is now celebrating in Heaven with his Lord and Savior.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde F. and Myrtle Steele Hartis; and sister, Betty Hartis Martin.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Diane Porter Hartis.

Gene is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sonia Meeks (Ronnie Joe) of Robersonville, NC; Gina Mullis (Kevin) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Klint Mullis, Cory Mullis (Tatum), Codie Meeks, Kyle Meeks (Kelly), Ashley Meeks and Emily Meeks; great grandchildren, Mitch Grizzard, Noah Meeks, Sadie Meeks, Apollo Meeks, Keely Mullis and Darren Mullis; brothers, Herbert Hartis (Carolyn) of Monroe, NC and Earl Reid Hartis (Donna) of Calabash, NC; and sister, Cathey Hartis McWhirter (Dale) of Mooresboro, NC.

Gene was a dedicated member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church of Matthews for 60 plus years, where he served faithfully as a Deacon, leader and bus driver of the Goodtimer’s Senior Adult Group for more than 30 years. He will be remembered as a successful midget race car driver on both a local and national level. Gene was an avid saltwater fisherman and loved flounder gigging. He will be remembered by many friends and family for his cheerful and fun loving personality.

His family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Senior Behavioral Health of Atrium Concord and Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28226 or to Mt.Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mt. Harmony Church Road, Matthews, NC 28105.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mt Harmony Church Rd, Matthews, NC 28105. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church.
