George Thomas Gleason Jr.

George Thomas Gleason, Jr, of Matthews, passed away November 27, 2018. Born in Kanawha County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late George Thomas Gleason, Sr. and Virginia Dixon Gleason. A devoted Husband, Father, & Grandfather and affectionately known as ‘Pepaw' he truly never met a stranger. Spanning a lifetime of so many different successful achievements from Freshman Basketball at University of Kentucky, to comptroller of a major newspaper, to coach inductee in his hometown St Albans Dragons Hall of Fame. He could often be seen in his Gator fisherman's hat riding his lawnmower, or just engaging in conversation in a way that would make everyone smile. He loved college basketball the most and enjoyed his annual March Madness bracket challenge with his unmatched ability to pick those early round upsets. Survived by his wife Peggy, 3 children Chip, Kim & Kevin and 6 grandchildren Alex, JT, Tyler, Kaylyn, Aiden and Cooper -
