Glenn W. Greene, age 75, of Monroe, NC passed away on June 26,2017 surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Dowd H. Greene and Loyce Baucom Greene, He married his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia (Pat) Mullis on February 26,1961. He is survived by his wife and two daughters and their spouses, Karen and Rusty Drake of Monroe and Stephanie and Joel Thomas of Monroe. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Kelsey Hill (Taylor), Jamie Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Jessica Drake, and Katlyn Thomas, He is also survived by two sisters, Louise Black and Marie Hinson. He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Greene of Monroe. Glenn was born August 12,1941 in Union County into a farming family.In high school he lettered in basketball and continued playing league ball after graduating from Unionville High School. After retiring from the Postal Service as a walking letter carrier in Monroe. He worked at the Ford dealership in Marshville selling cars for many years. The last job he held was the Transportation/Maintenance director for Union/ Anson/Richmond county Head start program.During his lifetime he always held the title of a farmer. He worked alongside his father farming for many years. He was a charter member of the Union County Tractor Club. Glenn was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served in many capacities over the years.He served on the Deacon Board. He was Church treasurer for many years. He worked on the grounds and maintenance committee and also served as a youth leader. As a teenager he even helped build the educational building. He served as a Sunday School teacher for 58 years. Beside the love of his life, Pat his grandchildren were his greatest joy. He enjoyed holding them as babies and watching them grow up. Many thanks to all his dear friends for all the visits and phone calls.The family would also like to express our appreciation for the medical care Glenn received from Dr. William C Burgess of First Charlotte Physicians Matthews. We also would like to thank Novant Health Hospice. Family will be at the home during the week to receive family and friends. The service will be Friday, June 30th at 1 pm. at the church.
