Grace Mullen

April 12, 1926 — November 18, 2018

Grace Bott Mullen was born on April 12, 1926 in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. She graduated to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 18, 2018. She grew up in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. Her early life was filled with love and care in a large family. Grace began working in her teens at an ice cream store. Later after high school graduation during World War II she worked on a top secret project. It was so secret she could not tell her mother where or what she was working on. Later after the war she discovered that her closest cousin was working in the same building also. Her job was to plot the weather reports over a one hundred year span for the Island of Japan. When that job was completed she went to work at the A&P Grocery store in the meat department. There she had a customer who later became her husband. The love of her life her Jack. They moved to the country Paintertown, Pennsylvania where they lived for the next 10 years. Grace went on to have three daughters. She loved her family very much. Her home was open to everyone that came and her table welcomed many people, family and friends. She loved to cook. She loved to plan things. When the family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina her kitchen became a gathering place every morning for neighbors and coffee and laughter. She enjoyed a recent Bott Family reunion where she connected with long lost cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years and the love of her life, Jack Mullen, her daughter Mary Hazel Callahan, her brothers Kenneth, George and Thomas Bott, her sister Melva Harty. She is survived by daughters Grace (Harry) Cook, Jackie (Doug) Redfern. Seven Grandchildren David (Mandy) Ratzloff, Lynn (Tom) Myrick, Daniel (Jennifer) Ratzloff, John (Brittany) Ratzloff, Ann (Jeff) Mullis, Meagan (Manny) Bazan, Kristin Callahan. Eighteen Great-Grandchildren and two Great-Great Grandchildren The family wishes to express gratitude to the many Hospice employees and volunteers who gave such needed support (physical, emotional and spiritual) to Grace and her family in her final days.
