Ivan T. Brown

March 20, 1919 — April 3, 2013

On April 3, 2013, Ivan Thompson Brown died of natural causes at his home in Waxhaw, North Carolina. In the course of his 94 years Ivan served as pastor in Nebraska and Illinois, missionary with his wife Lily in Asia and after her death, in Ghana, and elementary school teacher in the Los Angeles area of CA. Ivan retired from teaching to go to Ghana, where he served with Wycliffe Bible Translators (1977-1992). He retired from Ghana to work at JAARS (1993-2008). (JAARS is an organization in Waxhaw that supports Wycliffe around the world.) Ivan remained an active student of the Word of God until the day of his death. His 15 years in Ghana were spent supporting Bible translation in the finance office and in managing the print shop. But a teacher at heart, he quickly got involved in weekly village trips where he could minister to the local people, and oversaw a Bible correspondence ministry to Ghanaian youth. Over the years he became personally connected with many hundreds of young people. Born in New Salem, Nova Scotia, the oldest of 4 boys, Ivan was forever proud of his Canadian roots. He is preceded in death by his wife Lily Sara Brown, also a teacher, his parents, and one brother. He is survived by 2 brothers, Barton Brown of WI, and Leon Brown of NS, and many nieces and nephews. - -
