Jeannie Burgess

July 29, 1958 — March 25, 2016

Dolores Jean (Jeannie) Burgess, 57, of Charlotte, North Carolina went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, March 25, 2016. Jeannie was born and raised in Barberton, Ohio. She graduated from Barberton High School in 1976 with a vocational intensive office education degree, at which time she was recruited for a position with the Department of Energy in Washington D.C. Jeannie then became a legal secretary with Rose, Schmidt, Hasley and DiSalle Law Firm in Washington DC and spent the rest of her career in the legal field. She retired from K & L Gates, LLC (formerly known as Kennedy, Covington, Lobdell & Hickman) in Charlotte N.C. on March 19, 2015 with 23 years of loyal service. Jeannie grew up attending Calvary Wesleyan Church in Barberton, Ohio where both her grandfather and father served as pastors. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at the young age of 10 years old. She has been a member of the Steele Creek Church of Charlotte for over 20 years where she was blessed to be a part of an amazing home fellowship group and church body. She is survived by a large and loving family; her two children, Aaron Gregory Ankrim and Gabrielle Ankrim Burgess both of Charlotte, North Carolina; their father, Gary Burgess of Charlotte, North Carolina; step-son, Jordan Burgess of Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as her parents, Paul (Barbara) Ankrim of Walnut Creek, Ohio and Beverly Ankrim of Akron, Ohio; brothers, Paul Ankrim of Akron Ohio, Dennis (Mary) Ankrim of Norton, Ohio; sisters, Nancy (Michael) Coffman of Apopka, Florida and Debra (Warner) Watson of Jackson, Mississippi; nephews: Joshua (Rebekah) Coffman, Nathan (Candace) Smith, Michael Shape; nieces: Andrea (Paul) Adams, Ashley (Marco) Loureiro, Alexandria (Kevin) Kelly, Hannah Shape; as well as many great-nephews and great-nieces. She was also the loving and devoted "Nana" to one very special grandchild, Jayden Alexander Burgess, who brought a smile to her face every day. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Rev. Roy and Freda Ankrim; maternal grandparents, Morris and Thelma Duxbury; and sister, Sherri Ann Ankrim. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Warden Woodard and his nurse, Kim Rippy, as well as all the staff at the University Levine Cancer Institute for the exceptional medical care they gave to Jeannie for the past 7 ½ years. We would also like to thank Russ and Melanie Sizemore and Jackie Reuter for their treasured friendship and incredible support over the years. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the staff of the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville for their exceptional loving care of Jeannie during her final days. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 29th at Steele Creek Church of Charlotte, 1928 W. Arrowood Road, Charlotte at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jeannie Burgess Memorial Fund for the benefit of Jayden Alexander Burgess, c/o Community Bank, 701 Pine Way Hill, Flowood, MS 39232 or Wind River Cancer Wellness Retreats & Programs, , 430 Larsen Lane, Tryon, NC 28782-6760. -
