Charlotte

Mr. John Edward “Ed” Jackson slipped peacefully from this earthly life into Heaven on January 5th, 2024 at Wellmore Assisted Living in Tega Cay, SC. He was 85.5 years old.

Born on June 22, 1938, Ed was the second child and only son to Harry and Lillie Belle Jackson of Clover, South Carolina. He is predeceased by his parents and older sister, Patsy Martin. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of almost 60 years Ruby Watson Jackson, his daughter Paige McKnight of Charlotte, North Carolina and his daughter Patti Harris (John) of Acworth, Georgia. He has three grandchildren – Jeffrey McKnight, Courtney Harris Long (Andrew) and Jackson Harris. He has 6 great grandchildren – Cole McKnight and Anastasia, Arthur, Louie, Catalina, and Hallelujah Long. Ed also has three sisters – Rebecca McGinnas, Johnsey Thompson (Charlie), and Sandra Brandon, and many wonderful nieces and nephews as well.

Ed graduated from Clover High School in 1956 and went on to get a degree at Presbyterian College in 1960. He went to work for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company where he met his bride, Ruby. They went to a company Christmas party and the rest is history! They both continued to work at Liberty Mutual until retirement after about 40 years.

Ed enjoyed his time revolving around family, church and sports. He loved being around people, and he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He always invested in and served others well. As an active member of Carmel Baptist Church for many years, Ed served as a deacon, went on mission trips, helped at kids’ camp, and found great joy in reaching out to new people who visited the church. He learned how to effectively share the Gospel and was eager to share with others how they too could have a relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

To honor Ed’s life and legacy, the family invites you to a Celebration of Life service on Friday, January 19th at 11:00 am at Carmel Baptist Church, 1145 Pineville-Matthews Rd. Matthews, NC 28105. A visitation with family will be held at 10:00 am just prior to the memorial service.
