John Myers Dwelle, 102, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2017. Born on June 5, 1914 in Lexington, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Harold Cothran Dwelle and Mary Myers Dwelle and the grandson of John Springs Myers. At age 13, he and his family relocated from Kings Mountain to the Myers homestead on E. Trade Street in Charlotte. He attended Charlotte City Schools and Porter Military Academy (now Porter-Gaud) in Charleston, SC, class of 1933. Upon graduation he enrolled at The Citadel and continued his education at the Poughkeepsie Business School in Poughkeepsie, NY. In 1937, he married his first wife, Harriette Culp Dwelle, the mother of his five children. After her death, he married Virginia Farmer Dwelle and following her passing in 2001, he wed Sue McEntire Dwelle. In the late 30's, he opened the John M. Dwelle Real Estate Company with offices in the Latta Arcade and became very active in the Charlotte Realtors Association serving as its President in 1950 and still holds an active NC Realtor's license, number eleven. Mr. Dwelle was an avid outdoor sportsman and loved big game hunting. Acquiring his pilot's license in the late 1950's, he flew all over the U.S., Canada, Alaska, and the Caribbean. However, he considered the most important thing he did in his life was accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior and being baptized in the river Jordan.
