Mildred Fisher

May 7, 1938 — August 10, 2022

Mildred Ratchford Fisher, 84, of Matthews, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, August 10, 2022. She was born on May 7, 1938, to the late Roy and Ada Drum Ratchford. She had one brother and four sisters that preceded her in death, Roy Ratchford Jr. (Pansy), Leota Prestwood (Lawrence), Margaret Bell (Gene), Dezaree Kale (Glen), and Ada Belle Scism (Max).

She graduated from Bandys High School in 1956 and then went on to attend Davis School of Nursing. She was married to the late Lewis Fisher from Long Island, NC for 57 years. Together, they raised three sons, Ricky, Scott, and Dennis in Matthews, North Carolina. Mildred retired from nursing after 39 years of service.

Lewis and Mildred were faithful members of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church where they joyfully sang in the choir for many years. Mildred loved the beach and could often be found enjoying her second home in Garden City, SC. She was known as nurse Mildred to many and was always answering phone calls or attending to someone at her door with a medical need. She was a “Go -To Woman” for just about anything. Mildred’s favorite title was, “Mawmaw.” She was adored by her six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. If her grandkids were participating in an activity, you would often find her there as well.

Mildred is survived by her three sons, Rick (Lori), Scott (Ann), and Dennis (Tina). She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Heather Turner (Luke), Samantha Bennett, Hannah Ray (Dustin), Adam Fisher, Hunter Boyette, and Grace Fisher; and two great grandchildren Caroline Mae Turner and Claire Elizabeth Turner.

A visitation and funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
