Tere Hathcock

July 22, 1960 — January 31, 2016

Carmen "Tere" Velez Hathcock, 55, of Midland NC was called home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on January 31, 2016. In Tere's short time with us, she touched so many lives and her presence brightened any room she entered. This is evident in the postings left on social media celebrating Tere's life, "...her life was a testimony for her Lord and Savior", and "...our lives have been made richer because of the love she shared with each of us". Tere was a dedicated mother and wife. She loved and adored her boys and her husband. She will be dearly missed. As a military family dependent, Tere was born in Bitburg, Air Base Germany on July 22 1960. She graduated from Torrejon High School, Madrid Spain in 1978. Tere married the love of her life, John Hathcock on October 12, 1991; they celebrated a wonderful marriage of 24 years. They reaffirmed their love and commitment by renewing their wedding vows on their 20th wedding anniversary. Tere worked as a Referral Coordinator for First Charlotte Physicians in Matthews, NC for 25 years. She enjoyed helping people and always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She was actively involved in Laurel Baptist Church's Children's Ministry and left a lifelong impression on the children she loved. Tere is survived by her husband John, sons David, Michael, and Steven. Other survived family members include: Carolyn Hathcock of Midland, NC; Art, Jodie and Dalton Hathcock of Concord, NC; Ken, Natalie and Ashlyn Mallard of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her mother, Carmen J. Conover, Brother Juan R. Velez, Jr and wife Dorothy of Indian Trial, NC, Sister Angie Mallonee and husband Jason of Sherrills Fords, NC, Brother Julio Velez and wife Cindy of Hampton VA, Sister Merlein Thompson and husband Alan of Matthews NC, Uncle Robert Conover and wife Lori of Milwaukee OR, Uncle Rick Conover of Milwaukee OR, Aunt Mary Ann Conover of Milwaukee OR, six nieces and four nephews, and one Great-Nephew. Tere is preceded in death by her father, Juan R. Velez, Sr.; her step-father Ronald M. Conover, grandmother Mary Catherine Conover, and her infant son Jonathan Scott Hathcock. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Katelyn Ziglar Scholarship Fund through Laurel Baptist Church. The Hathcock family wishes to thank our church family of Laurel Baptist, and the many family and friends for all the prayers and love that were sent their way. God is so good! -
