Tommy D. York

March 3, 1953 — December 29, 2023

Tommy (Tom) Duane York, born on March 3, 1953, in Hornell, NY, entered into eternal rest at his home surrounded by family on December 29, 2023. At the age of 70, Tom peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus.

Survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Valencia, Tom is remembered as a loving father to Jason and his wife Tina, Josh and his wife Stacey, and Adrienne and her husband Josh Ames. Cherished grandchildren include Jacob, Caleb, Samuel, Jada, Eli, Gabriella, and William. Tom, the youngest of three brothers, is survived by his older siblings, Jack and Roger.

Tom and Val embarked on their journey together in a small Rochester, NY apartment, where Tom commenced his career at Eastman Kodak. Three children, numerous relocations, and 31 years later, Tom transitioned to full-time ministry. Initially as associate Pastor at Living Hope Assembly of God in Hamlin, NY, and later as an associate Pastor at Central Church in Charlotte, NC, he began serving in Jail Ministry before shifting to College Ministry. Rooted in a deep understanding of the Word of God, Tom had a fervent passion for genuine discipleship. Together with Val, he frequently guided young couples through pre-marital counseling and he officiated at their weddings.

For five years, Tom worked for the City of Charlotte Light Rail before officially retiring in 2019. During retirement, he found joy in his dream job, collaborating with his good friend Chase Corder, restoring vintage cars. Beyond work, Tom and Val relished frequent trips to Ocean Isle and Emerald Isle, as well as visits to Tennessee to spend time with Josh's family in Cleveland and Adrienne's family in Knoxville.

Since 2015, Tom served as an elder at Vizion Church alongside his close friend and Pastor, Tyson Coughlin.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund is being established at Vizion Church in Tom’s memory to support the development of young leaders, evangelists, and missionaries. To contribute, please direct your donations to Vizion Church, specifying "Tom York." Further details will be provided in the coming days.
