Warren James Gooden

WARREN JAMES GOODEN JR, 91 went home to be with the Lord on November 22, 2021 in Charlotte, NC. Warren was born to Warren James Gooden Sr. and Louisa Jane "Lula" Faircloth Ballentine in Bladen County, NC. Warren Sr. and Lula had both been widowed and she gave birth to their only child on July 20, 1930. Although Warren was an "only" child, he had many half-brothers and half-sisters from his parent's previous marriages. Warren grew up in Clarkton, NC where he helped his parents run their farm.

After high school he left home and attended business school in Raleigh where he met the love of his life, Flora Grace Aman. After finishing business school they married in 1950 and had a wonderful marriage that lasted over 67 years.

In 1952 Warren was drafted into the Army and served during the Korean War. He was assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers as a clerk typist during his time in Korea, and rose to the rank of Sergeant before the end of his tour. After this he also served in the Army Reserves. He was always proud of this service to both God and Country.

Warren spent his entire career in the food industry and specialized in sales, both retail and wholesale. At the time of his retirement he was Comptroller for the food brokerage firm he was with. His favorite pastimes were golf and fishing, and he had a passion for gardening. He loved tinkering with home projects and was known as the family's "fixer of all things".

Warren had a steadfast faith and devotion to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a faithful member of Forest Hills Baptist Church of Raleigh, NC, Spillman Memorial Baptist Church of Kinston, NC, First Baptist Church of Tucker, Georgia, Parkwood Baptist Church of Jacksonville, FL, University Baptist Church of Coral Gables, FL, First Baptist Church of Cary, NC and lastly Calvary Church of Charlotte, NC. He was involved in each of his churches and spent countless hours in volunteer work over his lifetime.

He was devoted to and survived by his children: Eddie W.(Marty) Gooden of Greer, SC, Janet Beth (Rob) Kendall of Charlotte, NC, and his grandchildren: Dr. Shannon (Jordan) Davidson, Kimberly (Troy) Jordana, Andrew (Anna) Kendall, and Elizabeth (Andy) Dinsbeer. A better husband, father and "Grampie" could not be found.

The family will receive guests at 30 mins prior to service in the Rae room.

A private internment will be at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina.
