Wayne Maurice Lowery

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It is with great sadness that the family of Wayne Maurice Lowery announces his passing. Wayne Lowery, 85, resident of Locust NC, formerly of Statesville NC & originally from the Toombs County Georgia area passed away comfortably & peacefully on 4/1/2021 at Presbyterian Hospital ICU due to complications following a stroke. Mr. Lowery served in the Army from 1954-1957 & retired in 1985 after serving as a Fort Lauderdale Police Officer for 25 years, working his way up in rank to Major & Acting Chief of Police.  He also worked for several years as a Custodian for South Iredell High School in Troutman NC. Wayne enjoyed gardening & reading as well as watching westerns.  He was not able to garden & read in recent years however continued to enjoy his westerns on TV.  He also enjoyed spending time with family. He will be lovingly remembered by his 6 children:  Sheryl Moser (Dan), Cricket Caldwell (Byron), Robin Lowery (Eric), David Lowery (Susan), Dennis Lowery (Joy) & Corey Lowery (Kelsey). 12 Grandchildren:  Ashlee, Cary, Dani, Hallie, Sheridan, Sean, Heather, Alex, Jason, Justin, Christian & Kristyn. 15 Great-grandchildren: AJ, Alexandra, Nick, Aliza, Silas, Boone, Avery, Vivianne, Andrew, Gabriel, Isabella, Domaren, Noah, Landon & Jase Sisters:  Gaile Sikes & Diane Collins Wayne was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn G. Lowery whose ashes will be buried with him.  She passed away in 1998 after 37 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his father, mother & brother:  Maurice Andrew Lowery, Edna Alice Lowery & Abram James (AJ) Lowery. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 6th at 9:00 AM and the service will immediately follow the viewing at 10:00AM at Gaskin Funeral Services 14617 Lawyers Road #B, Matthews NC 28104. Gravesite service & burial will follow at 11:00 AM at Sunset Memory Gardens 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte NC 28227.
