Harriet Mcclure Evans

June 27, 1949 ~ February 1, 2020 (age 70)

Obituary

Harriet McClure Evans of Charlotte, N. C. was born June 27th 1949 to her parents Christine Carriker McClure and H. L. McClure.  Her given name was Harriet, but all who knew her well knew her as “Etta”, the nickname given to her by her dad as a child.  She grew up with her sister Dianne Baker Lambert in a loving Christian home at 8304 Lawyers Rd.  She graduated from Independence High School in 1967 and began work with Morse Cutting Tools in Charlotte.

On December 31st, 1970 Harriet married Richard (Dick) Evans and just recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.  Harriet was mother to her sons Chuck, Mark and John and also her daughter Sheri Evans Huntley.  She was a wonderful wife and mother always putting the needs of others above her own.  She loved compassionately and sacrificially every day of her life.

Harriet’s love for her family and people was only outshone by her love for her Lord, Jesus Christ.  She lived her life faithfully serving the Lord by serving those around her.  She was a compassionate caregiver to many in her family including her mother and sister.  Harriet loved to serve family meals and her home was always open to any and all.  Harriet’s gift for hospitality made her home a gathering place for the Evans and McClure families for many years.  Many family reunions, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays were celebrated in their home on Lawyers Rd.

Harriet had a work ethic that was unparalleled. From being a full-time wife and mother, she also managed the office for her family’s, Interstate Batteries distributorship, that her father began in 1967 and that she and Dick owned from 1985 until they retired in 2004.  She loved to serve her church as well.  She served the church in many ways, always quietly behind the scenes preparing and delivering meals to those who were sick or by hosting different meals and events.  She saw her service to her church as an extension of her love for the Lord and always did it with diligence and a smile.

Harriet Evans lived a life of love and service that impacted many; her love and compassion leave a legacy that will live on through her family for generations.  Harriet has now realized the eternal reality of her abiding love for Jesus Christ. Her determined faith and eternal hope have all been realized as she met her Savior face to face and heard Him say, “Daughter, welcome home”.

“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3

Harriet is survived by her loving Husband, Dick and her children, Chuck Evans(Mary), Sheri Huntley(Brian), Mark Evans(Missy), John Evans(Erin).

Her Grandchildren, Paul, Leighton, Maghen, Brittany, Brent, Grey, Tyler, Morgan, Eric and Parker.
